In the blink of an eye, winter is turning to spring. As cherry blossoms burst into the scene, I find myself writing this blog for the first time from a workstation that isn’t somewhere within my home.
Last October it was all systems go to launch a new supper club…but sometimes when an opportunity presents itself, you just know you’ve got to do it. Liz would say, “It is unturndownable” and she would be right.
The talk started at our graduation table when Charleston suggested to one of my classmates who was planning to open a new café in town, to hire me. We giggled at the idea of how fun it would be to work together, but by the time we got home I thought no more about it. Instead I focused on getting an artisan range of products together. To my utter surprise Winnie texted and we met up in late October.
Since then it has been a whirlwind of events, mostly involving a very long renovation period, sleepless nights and channeling a lot of frustration-induced aggressive behavior. Before this I rarely had reason to use ‘Mr. Angry Red Faced’ emoticon...
But it’s funny how things turn out. All the delays have (finally) lead us to an opening date in March 2014…in fact, the ceremony itself will be on the first day of spring. A great day to start something new don’t you think?
And so it is with mixed emotions that I put Jaim’s Kitchen on the back seat for a while. It is so rare for one fresh out of culinary school to be offered the scope of work that this job has presented. I do have so much more to learn and cannot wait to get stuck in. Plus being a chef has made me realize that I am a morning person after all.
Thank you, for being so gracious and generous with your support and encouragement throughout my two blogging years. I’ll be back someday but for now I leave you photos of my new workplace. If you are ever in London, know that you’ll always be welcomed at the café.
